never complete the entire story. I want spectator to participate,
not just be a passive viewer."
Dixie has worked in many medias, but
regardless of the medium used, her subjects are treated with
integrity. Through technique and a selective eye she allows her
subjects to remain themselves. She yields the glimpses of life only
seen by artist, whose work it is to share those sights with the
viewer.
Dixie is now
working in what she refers to as "COLLAGE, MOSAIC, PAPER". Paintings
that are created with handmade Japanese Origami and Rice papers.
Papers are torn or cut into small pieces and then glued down to
create a painting, Sometimes Kimono, Gullah Lady, Wine Bottles, or
Flowers.
Born in the
farm land of Kansas she has lived in Illinois/Texas, and Louisiana.
The family move to Myrtle Beach, SC Where she currently maintains
her studio. She taught drawing and watercolors for 22 years. Her
formal art education includes studies at University of SC. As well
as many national known artist Recipient of numerous awards at State,
Regional, and National levels, including two Grumbacher Gold Medals
A featured Artist in American Artist Publications "Watercolor '90"
Her paintings are a part of private and corporate collections across
the United States and abroad. Dixie is signature member of Southern,
Georgia, SC Watercolor Societies and Watercolor Society of Alabama.
She is represented in Howard Gallery and Burroughs and Chapin Art
Museum in Myrtle Beach, SC And is part owner in Waterfront Gallery
in Charleston SC Dixie is married to Tommy Dugan, has two daughters,
Linda and Susan, and a granddaughter, Stacey.
