A native South Carolinian, Joann grew up in an artistic family in North Charleston. Her art is an expression of the life around her.  Her roots are deep in the lowcountry she loves, where her imagery is influenced, whether it be realistic or abstract. Through her studies over the years with varied nationally known artists, her art has developed into a unique form using a combination of media, from watercolors, ink, collage, monotypes and oils.  Her ink paintings have developed through experimentation, using seawater and sand, to give her work a distinct underwater feel and landscapes a three-dimensional effect. Her work has been exhibited in shows from Connecticut to Florida, and to Texas, as well as on the Island of Bermuda, and her paintings are found in collections around the world.
